The Original Art show held at the Society of Illustrators is an annual showcase of illustrations from the year’s best children’s books. The exhibit features work from a range of mediums – from painting and drawing to digital – and never disappoints.

Like fellow indie Little Miss Sunshine, Win Win is a wonderfully scripted and acted film about surrogate relationships (with an original song by The National to boot).
I heart blizzards. Snowstorms, incidentally, are a great time to go traipsing through Central Park.
Live-action short God of Love was a clear favorite at the Oscar Shorts screening and went on to take the Oscar.
Bay Ridge isn’t known as a culinary destination but the french toast at Saint Germain Bistro was worth the trek. No doubt there are other food gems in the neighborhood waiting to be discovered.

There’s something charming about cities with rivers running through them.

Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury.
-Coco Chanel
Coco Chanel was a woman after my own heart. She not only extolled the idea of comfort but took a “less is more” approach to her work. These were just a few things I learned about the famous couturier after watching Coco Before Chanel. While the film’s depiction of Chanel was thoroughly engaging, I suspect the real-life Coco was not quite as endearing as Audrey Tautou would have us believe. This poster, of which I’m completely enamored with, captures Chanel’s rebellious spirit and radical style perfectly.
