(500) Days of Summer, Andrew Bird, Died Young, Stayed Pretty
Daniel Danger is an illustrator and printmaker I discovered through OMG Posters! a while back. His prints and posters are oftentimes canvases for haunted landscapes and wayward spectres.
His latest work is currently being exhibited at the Richard Goodall Gallery in Manchester, England. For fans like myself, this was an opportunity to [finally] nab one of his prints. But for reasons not unrelated to the recession, I passed on these awesome, limited-edition intaglio prints I had been ogling.
The print on the right, however, is entitled I could never fight your battles or win your wars and is currently making its way across the pond… and into my clutches.
…the number of days since my last concert outing.
199: number of days til U2’s latest stadium tour, U2360, comes to town.
475: percent increase in ticket prices in my lifetime (approx). I pulled out some old stubs for reference:
Depeche Mode: Violator Tour, Meadowlands Arena, June 1990 – Floor seats – $22.50
Depeche Mode: Tour of the Universe, MSG, August 2009 – Floor seats – $129.50
1: number of days til the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s new album, It’s Blitz!, drops!

January – February recap:

Van Gogh @ MoMA, J. Crew and Cole Haan sample sales, birthday dinners, Oscar-nominated shorts for $5, fashion photography @ ICP, NYICFF.
Since viewing the documentary Art & Copy, I got to thinking about some recent ads I actually enjoyed:

Visa : Aquarium – made me want to take a trip to the aquarium, not apply for a Visa check card.
Where the Wild Things Are – the movie has the daunting task of living up to the trailer. Gets the award for Best Use of an Arcade Fire Song.
Snakes on a Cane – the viral campaign for House was alright but I loved the concept behind the graphic. Translates brilliantly into a logo for the show.
Having recently completed Malcolm Gladwell’s latest book, Outliers: The Story of Success, I was compelled to look into his earlier work. This talk he gave for TED back in 2006 is still relevant and entertaining.
An awesome day to be out on the slopes. Fourth time on a board and no closer to mastering heel to toe. Consolation comes in the form of a pastrami on rye.

My second attempt to catch the Van Gogh exhibit at MoMA fared no better than the first. Apparently one needs to get to the museum around 3pm in order to secure a timed ticket during Target Free Friday Nights. This left ample opportunity to check out Pipilotti Rist: Pour Your Body Out and Joan Miró: Painting and Anti-Painting 1927-1937. Miró’s Objects were my favorite of the series.

Already on my iCal: Tim Burton retrospective. Opening November 22, 2009.
To celebrate our company’s first full year in operation, my co-workers and I rang in the holidays with an evening of fine dining at Eleven Madison Park. The wonderful food was surpassed only by the impeccable service. The finale to the Autumn Tasting Menu was the Mignardines. Sadly, this cell phone pic doesn’t do them any justice.
